A recent discussion on Madisound's Bulletin Board prompted me to action. The topic was impedance compensation and the effects of differing locations for it. That is, either at the speaker input or at the amplifier output.

There were numerous posts, not all in agreement, so I decided to investigate the different effects via Calsod (Computer Aided LoudSpeaker Optimization and Design), the CAD program I use. I have a current 3-way speaker system model in Calsod, with which I could test the various effects of differing compensation placements. The impact of speaker cable interaction with the speaker and compensation networks is partially covered here. This is in no way a complete analysis of the topic, but at least may shed some light on the topic to those interested.
